How it works...

This is one of the many fake gpus sold online to those unfaimiliar with computer hardware, whom at a reasonable price, are being scammed. I purchased the item in this photo for $50usd from a website called newfrog.com. as you can see there is no labeling or branding, which should have been an indicator to me, however i was attempting to purchase the before the "daily deal" timer had ended. Fortunately, i mistakingingly pressed the back button after the purchase only to realise the timer had reset to 24 hours, which i now know is reoccuring. This was my first indicator of foul play.
I began to search online and lo and behold the gpu scam is very relevant. The process is quite simple where replacing an older model gpu's fan with a newer model and flaahing the newer models bios to the older version, now you and your pc are under the impression that the older fpu is a newer model gpu.
How the scam is efficient, is that the buyer must pay return postage. Sending the fake to china from the u.s. would cost as much as the item itself, if not more in most cases. So the buyer is in a pickle and has the choice of flashing the original bios and to use the older model properly, resell the item, or simply throw it away.
